Set of 12 18th Century engravings of applies by Johann Knoop.

These very detailed hand-colored engravings come from Johann Knoop's Pomologia, which was the first colour work to focus solely on fruits and pomology. The work paid close attention to the size, shape, and coloring of numerous fruits.

German-born Knoop (1700-1769) served as Head Gardener to the Dowager Princess of Orange. Whilst tending to the garden, he also worked extensively on the science of garden design.

This monumental work helped readers to identify apples and pears growing in their garden, as well as to understand their various merits.
