A superb bronze figure of a Horse and Jockey, Inscribed on the base 'John Skeaping 77.Trophy York' mounted on an Italian Marmoro Porto Negro marble base.

The exact number of casts from this edition is unknown but one of this edition was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1978. John Skeaping (1901-1980) studied at the Royal Academy. He was a world renowned painter and sculptor, he married the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. He was a Professor of sculpture at the Royal College of Art 1948/59. The Tate Gallery owns eight of sculpture works. Examples of his sculpture are rare and seldom appear on the open market.

This particular edition was cast by Wally Livingstone at the Livingstone Art founders. He previously worked for the Galizia foundry who cast bronzes for Henry Moore, Jacob Epstein, Elizabeth Frink and Eduardo Paolozzi.
