Set of 12 19th Century hand-coloured engravings of bird prints by François Nicolas Martinet.

Martinet (1725-1804) was a prolific French court artist and engraver. He is remembered for his extensive contribution to George Louis Leclerc Buffon's major work Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière.

Martinet provided all of the bird illustrations for the work, which were also published separately in Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux.

The work was a resounding success and a bestseller of its day, translated into many different languages.

These highly decorative engravings are in very good condition and presented in contemporary frames. They will make a striking feature on any wall.
