Vintage Oil Painting of Durham Cathedral & Fulling Mill, Signed J.C. Madgin (1979)
A charming vintage oil on board depicting the iconic view of Durham Cathedral rising above the River Wear and the historic Old Fulling Mill. Signed lower right by J.C. Madgin and dated circa 1979. Painted in a richly textured impasto style with warm greens and ochres, giving the piece lovely depth and movement.
The artist, who normally went by the name Clive Madgin was originally an art-teacher and later professional artist who specialised in paintings inspired by the mining industry of the North East of England, church and other architecture of County Durham, particularly Durham Cathedral. He was also a well known aircraft modeller, fencer and fencing coach.
Framed in its original 1970s gilt moulding. A decorative, nostalgic scene perfect for a traditional interior or cottage setting.
