An Arts & Crafts Style Metamorphic Library Chair / Steps

A characterful and practical piece, possibly continental, that converts from a chair into library steps. It has a shaped back with a heart-shaped cut-out, a warm brown finish and brass hinges. The simple construction and decorative back are in keeping with the Arts & Crafts style. c1900

The wood appears to be a combination of cherry and oak which has been stained and waxed .

Measurements: Measures as a chair: H 93 × W 35.5 × D 47 cm and Seat depth: 30 cm, Measures as steps: H 94 × W 39 × D 59 cm

Condition: Stable and sturdy, with surface wear, scratches, a ring mark to the seat and small knocks to the edges. The brass hinges show age.
