A handsome and generously proportioned Art Deco three-seater sofa, French Design with the distinctive "moustache" top rail and deeply inclined profile are hallmark signatures of early-to-mid 20th-century French club furniture, The frame is upholstered in traditional sheepskin leather (basane), which showcases excellent vintage character. It features deep honey-cognac hues on the tight-back panel and arms, contrasted with beautifully distressed, softer olive-tan tones on the loose seating cushions. Lifting the cushions reveals a vibrant red fabric deck lining over a traditional coil-sprung seat platform, which is typical for high-end seating from this period to prevent leather-on-leather slipping. The reverse side shows a clean, sweeping leather back secured by a solid, continuous line of dark antique upholstery tacks. The entire heavy frame rests on hidden metal roller casters for easy positioning.

Dating stylistically to the 1930s, the sofa has a wonderfully architectural design, with a broad, gently curved back, distinctive stepped arms and rounded upholstered corners, characteristic of the Art Deco period.

The substantial arms are finished with decorative brass studwork, a detail repeated along the back of the sofa, emphasising its strong geometric lines.

The three loose leather seat cushions are upholstered in a contrasting colour, creating an attractive two-tone effect against the rich chestnut and cognac tones of the main body.

The leather has developed a particularly appealing patina, with natural variations in colour, gentle creasing and signs of age that contribute to its character and authenticity.

A wonderfully comfortable and substantial piece, equally suited to a traditional country house, gentleman’s library or contemporary interior, where its strong proportions and beautifully aged leather would make a striking statement.

Extra Dimensions: Height to Arms 59 cm, Seat Depth 65 cm and Height of Seat 36 cm

Condition: Attractive aged condition, with wear and patination consistent with age and use. The contrasting leather cushions show considerable softening and creasing
