An Attractive Art Deco Venetian Etched-Glass Mirror, c.1920

A particularly attractive and highly decorative Venetian mirror dating to circa 1920, displaying the glamour and accomplished glasswork associated with the early Art Deco period.

The large central bevelled mirror plate is surrounded by shaped mirrored sections, finely decorated with delicate etched floral and foliate motifs. The frame is particularly elaborate, with applied mirrored leaves and bold scrolling elements culminating in an impressive pierced and shaped crest.

The combination of bevelled edges, etched decoration and layered mirrored ornament creates a wonderful play of light across the surface. The softly aged glass lends the piece considerable character and gives it an appealing decorative quality that is difficult to reproduce in later examples.

An elegant and generously proportioned Venetian mirror, highly decorative without being overly formal. Its distinctive silhouette and beautifully worked glass make it an excellent statement piece for a bedroom, dressing room, entrance hall or positioned above a console table.
