A Late 1930s Chrome and Orange Leather Cantilever Armchair probably from Bauhaus. Continental European, circa 1935–1940

A striking late 1930s Bauhaus-style armchair, combining a sculptural tubular chrome frame with beautifully upholstered orange leather.

Other measurements : Height Seat 45 cm and Height Arm 65 cm.

The chair features an unusual continuous tubular steel frame, elegantly curved to form a distinctive cantilever-style base with sweeping geometric lines. The shaped backrest, generously sprung seat and upholstered armrests provide both comfort and a sophisticated modernist appearance.

The design reflects the influence of the Bauhaus movement and the pioneering tubular steel furniture developed during the interwar period, when designers sought to combine modern industrial materials with functional elegance.

The chair has been professionally restored, with the original steel framework rechromed and the seat and backrest reupholstered in vibrant orange leather, incorporating traditional sprung upholstery for comfort and support.

The contrast between the polished chrome and rich orange leather gives the chair a particularly attractive architectural quality, making it equally suitable for a contemporary interior, a modernist apartment or a collection of twentieth-century design.

An exceptionally decorative and comfortable armchair, embodying the innovative spirit of European modernist furniture.

Condition: Restored, rechromed and reupholstered.
