Richard Shirley Smith studied at The Slade School of Fine Art and in Rome. Richard has worked as a painter, muralist, wood engraver and illustrator. He has had more than twenty one man shows and twelve mural commissions were completed between 1975 and 1990 in London's Eaton Square, Princes Gate, Kensington Palace Gardens. In 1985 he was given a retrospective exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum and at the R.I.B.A. Heinz Gallery in Portman Square London. Richard Shirley Smith was Head of Art at Marlborough College between 1966 and 1970. Works by this artist can be found in the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Ashmolean Museum and in galleries and private collections right around the world. This artists work is unmistakable in terms of quasi-surreal subject matter, impeccable style and dreamy feeling. Richard Shirley Smith’s work stays in the mind long after viewing.
