Kevin Platt - Ships Moored - Oil
Kevin Platt – Ships Moored – Oil on Canvas – Private Collection
Kevin Platt was born in Manchester in 1945 and studied at the Oldham School of Art, which was opened in 1881 to promote the talent of local artists. He later attended the Manchester College of Arts where other notable artists and textile designers, including LS Lowry and Ossie Clarke studied. Platt entered into advertising as a graphic and textile designer and went on to establish his own business in Manchester. However, in the late 1960s, he was drawn to work in Cornwall and opened a successful gallery in Padstow. Kevin retired to Mojacar in Spain in 2005, where he continues to host popular exhibitions with other artists, including his son David, who creates dramatic paintings in the photorealistic style.
Platt recreates topographical views in a nostalgic style; his people are dressed in Victorian and Edwardian costume and his views include quaint stone villages and working harbours with sailing vessels and fishing boats. His work includes much of the West Country including Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire and his beloved Cornwall.
